PENN CARBOSE INTRODUCES LIQUID CMC FOR
LIQUID DETERGENTS TO PREVENT SOIL REDEPOSITION

SOMERSET, Pa., Feb. 16, 1999 -- Penn Carbose has introduced
a liquid formulation of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) as
an additive for liquid laundry detergents to provide the
superior soil-antiredeposition properties common to heavy-duty
built powders in an easy-to-use, easily incorporated solution.
Penn Carbose is the largest manufacturer in North America
of technical-grade CMC for laundry detergent applications and
other industrial uses.
"Carbose LT-20 liquid CMC was developed to give liquid
detergent makers the same processing and end-use benefits long
known with powdered CMC," said Jeffrey Neubauer, managing
director.
Compared with synthetic polymers used in liquid detergents
as soil antiredeposition agents, liquid CMC is predissolved for
easier product incorporation, Neubauer said. Also, it is more
biofriendly because it is cellulose based.
"The low viscosity of liquid CMC means it has minimal
impact on the laundry detergent to maintain fluidity."
In addition, CMC is readily removed from materials during
washing, Neubauer said.
"The benefits of CMC as an additive to heavy-duty built
laundry detergent powders has been well established through
studies and usage for well over two decades," he added.
"The fact that Penn Carbose can supply CMC in both powder
and liquid means simplified purchasing requirements for laundry
detergent makers who make both liquids and powders, an important
consideration in today's business environment."
Carbose CMC for laundry detergents is available in North
America through Penn Carbose distributors and in truckload
quantities directly from the company.
According to Neubauer, Penn Carbose plans to develop a
complete line of liquid CMC in a range of viscosities and
purities to meet the needs of detergent makers and other users,
which include textile and paper manufacturers and mine
operators.
